Rotating Man 2005

In 2005 I had been Construction Manager for The Man since 2003. Crimson Rose and Rod Garret asked me to make the Man rotate according to Rod’s concept of cooperation. There would be four oars and each operator would need to cooperate with the other to make the Man rotate. There would need to be an adjustable feature so enough load could be applied that four large people could not make it excessively rotate but not break an oar. It had to be balanced enough under load that four people of average stature could also move the sculpture. The Man weighs approximately 2500 pounds when fully loaded and is frequently under load from 50-60mph winds.
